Australian GP: Ten points are just little consolation
Jonas Folger experienced a frustrating race at Phillip Island, having clearly disadvantages in acceleration over the course of the entire distance.
On the race day in Australia, the dreary weather situation during the previous days changed significantly with warmer temperatures and lots of sun. But the sun didn’t shine for Jonas Folger who started from P6 on the grid. The 23-year-old Moto2 rider from Germany went very determined into the race to be capable of matching with his competitors for a top result today. But the ambitious rider had to realize soon that he couldn’t keep the pace of the front guys. Folger crossed the line in sixth position, collecting important points for the championship but the joy about is limited.
The Australian round was the second from three oversea races in October with the series continues immediately with the Malaysian Grand Prix next weekend which marks the conclusion of the Asia/Australian tour and the penultimate race this season already.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (Dynavolt Intact GP, KALEX), 6th (World Championship position 7th, 143 points):
“Actually, I had to give up all hopes for a strong result during the first lap already. From the start, I was without a chance due to lacking rear grip. Anyway, I tried and did my best at any time to stay with the guys in front of me. But in every corner, I lost time from the center to the exit. The problemed was not caused by the performance of the tyres as we just had one option to use for this race which worked. After a first look on the data we could see any exceptional things. But it was clear, that the rear felt much too nervous as well I had a too much uncontrolled spinning at the rear tyre. I had trouble to accelerate in corner exit. So, this was my disadvantage and therefore it was a disappointing race. These ten points gained a truly not very popular.”
