#AustrianGP: Confident and fully charged to catch up missed
The German MotoGP™ Rookie heads in great from into this weekend’s round eleven in Austria’s green Styria.
Just one week after the start of the second part of the season in Brno, Czech Republic, the championship continues in Austria at the picturesque Spielberg circuit. The Austrian Grand Prix returned to the series´ calendar one year ago which was a great success and welcome comeback for all parties involved. Apart from that, the Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich is a very special race for Jonas Folger because it’s close located to his Bavarian home so he like to call it his second home Grand Prix.
After his stunning second place at the Sachsenring earlier last month, the Yamaha rider returned to action after the summer break in great shape. During the Brno race last weekend, however, just a failed pit stop cost him a top spot. Therefore, he wants to catch up this missed result at the calendar’s fastest race track. A successful test last Monday in Brno also gives legitimate hopes.
As usual for a European race, Sunday’s race is set to get underway at 2:00 pm.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (Monster Yamaha Tech 3, Yamaha YZF-M1), Championship position 7th (77 points):
“I’m looking forward to this weekend. The track in Spielberg is not far from my home, so it’s actually my second home Grand Prix. Many German fans and friend from Bavaria will come this weekend. In addition, I like the area here, which also applies to the track itself – the layout provides a lot of fun riding out there and although it looks relatively easy on the paper, it contains some subtleties. This Grand Prix has been in the calendar since last year but it is definitely nice to come here. I remember well when grip conditions were that great last year so I’m excited to see how the grip will be with the Michelin tyres and how it is to ride around this speedy circuit with my MotoGP Yamaha. We know since last year that the Ducati’s are strong here but I think it can also be a good track for Yamaha, especially since we have been able to improve our pace since the last races. We have grown stronger at all. Therefore, we want to show again this weekend that we are capable for a top result at any time. A result in the range of sixth to eight is our goal. I feel in good shape and therefore I’m very confident for the Austrian round at the marvellous place.”
