Two points at home round
Jonas Folger finished Sunday’s round nine of the season, which marks the halfway point of the season and the last one before the summer break, in a disappointing 14th position.
In front of huge crowded grandstands Folger wasn’t able to achieve his targets as well to satisfy the hopes of his home fans at the German round last Sunday. From the very first beginning he struggled with lack of rear grip for which he had a clearly disadvantage in acceleration. Beyond that the Kalex riders also wasn’t able to play his strengthens in breaking as Folger had to master some scary moments due to the front folded at some times. After all a mistake hampered all hopes for a better finish than in 14th position.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (AGR Team, Kalex) – 14th, World Championship position 7 (77 points):
“A race to forget, I’m disappointed. My start was ok but I realized quickly that I wasn’t able to race at the front, I couldn’t match the pace of them. For any reasons I couldn’t open the throttle as soon as usual. During the opening laps I tried to overcome it and adapt to the situation but the rear was spinning too much. I struggled with lack of grip. So after I lost time in corner exit I tried to push on the brakes even harder. In doing so I almost crashed sometimes due to the front folded in some corners. Eventually I had a run off through the gravel when I tried to pass Kallio. Unfortunate I was too late on the brakes like him and I had no other chance to avoid to hit him. In general I missed something today as I wasn’t either to compete at the front nor to set strong lap times. Of course it’s frustrating to conclude the weekend in this way after some good results during practice sessions and Qualifying. There was a light at the end of the tunnel to get in friendship with the Sachsenring. We must analyse all data because it isn’t normal for a racer who is capable of winning races and on the other side to finish in the points at least like today. Something goes wrong so we miss consistency. But consistency is the guarantee for success in this highly competitive series. During the second part of the season I want to race at the front consistently.”
