British GP: Top five in Silverstone
Jonas Folger crossed the line in a strong fifth place after a difficult race last Sunday in Silverstone.
A rain front arrived Northamptonshire last night so Warm Up session this morning was held in rainy conditions which was the first time for this weekend. However, some temporary drizzling rain showers stopped before the race went underway so final preparation were somewhat of a gamble again. But this time it was more clear than three weeks’ time ago in Indianapolis as all riders and teams did their chose for a proper race setup quite quickly on the grid.
As soon the wild Moto2 pack left the line, Jonas Folger was one of the main protagonists of the day. Not only due to his brilliant start but furthermore the Kalex rider battled amongst the first group for a possible rostrum finish all the way till tyre wear forced him in the later stages of the race to bring home a safe fifth place and most important valuable points. Folger’s well-thought tactic paid twice as he re-gained one position in the world standing.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (AGR Team, Kalex) – 5., World Championship position 6 (102 points):
“I’m really happy because it was a good race with an even better start and strong opening laps. Honestly speaking I was even stronger in the wet than during the later stages as the track dried out more. As soon the rain completely stopped and the track started to dry out I tried and pushed as hard as possible to stay with the front group. But I hardly could manage it so for many times I had to close a gap. During this stage I forced my tyres a bit too much as well I choose a different line to the others sometimes. In general I was strong in sector one and caught them there in every lap but in the remaining parts of the track I lost time. Anyway, I pushed that hard because I would like to snatch Marquez who was riding in front of me but in doing so the front folded for several times and fortunate I was able to avoid to crash. So I had to realize that it wasn’t possible to close the gap to him so I decided to stay calm and bring home this P5 and that much important points safely. I wouldn’t like to crash either. So I think I rode a clever race too. A huge thanks to my team for the great job done this weekend as well for the well prepared bike. I think we’re back on the right path.”
