#CatalanGP: Satisfied with improvements on day two
Jonas Folger, however, wasn’t completely pleased with his qualifying performance.
Finally, fine summer weather has reached the northeast of Spain. At the time of qualifying, ground temperatures were measured around the 50 degrees marker. With further improvements in terms of lap times during the final free practice session this morning, Jonas Folger and his technicians were right on the path to follow. In this way the next step should have been achieved during Q1.
Starting time for the season’s seventh race is scheduled as usual for Sunday at 12:20 pm CET.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (PETRONAS Sprinta Racing, KALEX), Grid position 23rd – 1´45.265 (5/8):
“With the exception of qualifying, it was another good day for us overall. During this session, however, we took a step backwards for the first time this weekend instead of making further improvements. We made some mistakes with regard to the bike’s set-up. At the moment we’re still making big steps when it comes to setup changes. With that we want to find out faster which settings will work best for me. That’s why we make extreme changes almost every time. Unfortunately, this didn’t work for qualifying like in the previous sessions. During a meeting we will also plan another big step for tomorrow because we see this weekend more like a training and testing under race conditions anyway.”
“Therefore, we’re taking a little more risk with the set-up. In doing so, we want to try to be on the right track as soon as possible. Maybe our setting from this morning was already a sign which way to go. But we simply have to try out all possible settings so that we have a basis for the next two races and can exclude fundamentally wrong things from the outset. But on the whole, we are satisfied. The goal for tomorrow is to find another five tenths of a second. We managed this from yesterday to today, so we want to repeat this step. If we can do that, then we’ll have done a good job.”
