#CatalanWorldSBK: To gain first impressions in Superbike World Championship
On Wednesday afternoon, Jonas Folger could already get a first taste from the Superbike paddock when he is set to return to world level this weekend.
After six consecutive victories in IDM Superbike, another challenge awaits Jonas Folger this weekend. A first approach to the level in the FIM Superbike World Championship was part of the agreement with his MGM Racing Team right from the start of their collaboration. Originally, two wildcard entries were planned for this year. The first one should have taken place at Assen, but this World Championship round had to be cancelled after a postponement.
The 27-year-old German is therefore now looking forward to the upcoming weekend with increased excitement, when he will be able to compete with the world elite of this series for the first time. Folger knows the Grand Prix circuit not far from Barcelona well enough. However, the production-based race machine will require a certain amount of adjustment, especially beyond that the schedule with three races at one weekend will also be something new for him.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (Bonovo action powerd by MGM Racing, Yamaha YZF R1):
“After I arrived well in Barcelona on Wednesday afternoon, I went straight to the racetrack in Montmeló. This show very clearly that in a world championship the working weekend starts a little earlier than in a national series. But I arrived in super nice weather and the prospects for the next few days are just as great, not only because of that. I was most happy when I saw the Yamaha Superbike for the first time with which I will race at this event. Then, of course, it did not take long before I could swing my leg over the bike for first seating test. But at my insistence it was more than just a seat test because we immediately did all the settings for a suitable position on the bike. Afterwards we looked at all the data and finished the settings, with which we will start with on Friday morning. As a basis we took a setting from Yamaha. By the way, their support is so greatly from the very first minute on.”
“Without meaning to, in retrospect it was already a real working day. So, we are now a few steps ahead in our plan. But that does not hurt in any way. In that sense, I will have more time on Thursday to acclimatize in this paddock and to talk to some of the other riders. For now, we are all incredibly happy to be here and to be able to collect Superbike World Championship experience. Even if it is only for one race weekend at first. But most of all I am mega happy for myself becoming this awesome opportunity. The bike is terrific. At first glance it is almost a real factory bike. But the real differences to my IDM machine will only become apparent when we go out on track for the first time. In any case, I am really excited about it. Therefore, I can’t wait any longer when we will get a first assessment of the situation during Friday’s free practice sessions.”
