#CzechGP: Brno weekend concluded with strong second half of the race
In view of the proverbial leap into the cold water at the Czech Grand Prix, Jonas Folger has pulled himself out of the affair with a clear increase during Sunday’s race.
The circumstances for the short-term stand-in for Khairul Idham Pawi at PETRONAS Sprinta Racing this weekend were extremely unfavourable. Apart from the missed Friday sessions, yesterday’s FP3 and qualifying were also of little use due to the constantly changing conditions. So, Jonas Folger and his crew were only able to start set-up work on race day. But in view of the short time they had with just 20 minutes during warm-up, they had done it in the best possible way. Folger impressed in the race with his basic speed as well as the gradually returning fighting spirit. The last lap was even his fastest of the whole weekend.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (PETRONAS Sprinta Racing, KALEX), P19:
“Given the circumstances, my race was ok from about halftime to the end. We definitely took a step forward. But it wasn’t as big as I would have liked it to be. I don’t want to use the missed Friday as an excuse. In the end I would have expected more though. But we have to take the overall situation into account and try to find a point where we start to work through our problems. The next step is to find solutions. But I also have to find a way to better adapt my riding. I think we lack a little bit in all areas. All of this makes it difficult for us to make progress.”
“We don’t have only one problem, but we are working on several issues at the same time, which makes it difficult for me to change over. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the race. Even though I wasn’t really fast at the beginning, I had a lot of fun in many battles for positions. But before we go on, we have to analyse this race very carefully. Finally, I’d like to say that I’m sorry that I didn’t talk to Yamaha in advance. Everything happened at very short notice. So, there was hardly any time to talk about it.”
