#CzechGP: All hopes for race day
Jonas Folger und his PETRONAS Sprinta Racing team have high hopes for Sunday morning’s warm up session.
Day two of practice at round ten of the season has been affected by changing weather. After a rain shower in the morning, the track dried out again during the final free practice session. But in the afternoon another thunderstorm came up to hit the Brno track. Qualifying therefore took place in full wet conditions. This was a very unfavourable situation for Jonas Folger, for whom the weekend at Brno only started today. Folger replaces Khairul Idham Pawi at short notice. The young Malaysian had to throw the towel on Friday after the second practice session due to a finger injury that had not healed completely. For Folger and his crew, the deficit in terms for missed Friday’s practice time was clearly noticeable. Apart from the difficult conditions he could hardly find a feeling and confidence for his machine.
The first race after the summer break will start on Sunday as usual at 12:20 CET.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (PETRONAS Sprinta Racing, KALEX), Grid position 29th – 2´17.759 (7/7):
“The fact that we only started into the weekend today is by no means the reason for our performance. On the contrary, I didn’t feel comfortable with the bike at all. We’re still wondering why I couldn’t build up a feeling in the wet. Normally I have a good feeling in rainy conditions. At the Sachsenring we were good at similar track conditions. But today we were completely lost. I simply didn’t get any feedback from the tyres. We have to find out the cause first. As I said before, I usually have a lot of confidence in my package when it rains. But today everything was gone.”
“Four seconds behind is not acceptable for me. For the simple reason that I’m not four seconds slower than the others. We have to sit down and find a solution for this problem. On the other hand, if tomorrow the weather is really going to be nice again, then we have to continue on the level of FP3. This session was ok by large. In any case, we only have the warm-up left to prepare for the race in the best possible way. This 20-minutes long session will be incredibly important for us. We started today with a lack of track time. Therefore, we’ve to take the right step during the warm-up because we won’t have any chance afterwards.”
