Third row start at the Sachsenring
Thanks to a perfect lap at the German ciruit’s tight and twisty layout Jonas Folger qualified during Saturday’s timed session for P8 on the grid in the very last moment.
Due to good conditions with elevated temperatures than the previous day for Folger and his crew tyre choice started from scratch this afternoon. After testing both options brought by tyre supplier Dunlop for this weekend the experienced crew switched back to the softer compound and in doing so the Kalex rider lapped around the 3.6 km long track in impressive style. Aside from tyre testing’s during Qualifying Folger and his crew were able to work on a high and consistent race pace which should be the joker for tomorrow’s last competition before team’s and riders head into the well-earned summer break.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (AGR Team, Kalex), Grid position 8 – 1´24.618 (24/24):
“I think my grid position is ok and nothing is lost starting from third row. For my personally idea it isn’t a problem to overtake here at this circuit, there are enough places to do so. Of course it’s true and always better to start from a higher position, the higher the better, but I think our race pace is quite high and in addition the distance with 27 laps at this twisty track for sure won’t be an easy ride. For such a long distance you must 100 percent fit. And then also at the start everything has to go well. But I’m confident that I should be able to catch some positions as soon as the light went out tomorrow. During qualifying practice we tried both options again before we put in the softer one again. This compound suits my riding style better and finally it was the right choice for these conditions. Thanks to this switch I was able to find one further tenth of a second during my final lap which was the key to qualify for the third row. However, I lose too much time during sector one which still is my weakest point at the moment. During this sector I must improve, particularly in turn one and two. If I can do that then I think I’m able to race at the fierce end of the competition.”
