Fantastic front row start at Motegi
Jonas Folger will tackle this season’s 15th race at the tricky Twin Ring Motegi this Sunday from an outstanding third place on the grid.
This third spot on the grid after today’s qualifying is his best starting position since the Barcelona Grand prix mid of June earlier this year. Folger’s performance explosion this afternoon did not came surprisingly at all, after he already concluded all free practice session with just a small gap to the respective frontrunners. Thanks to a determined work together with his crew, he was able to elaborate a sophisticated setup of his Kalex bike, to improve it session by session, before Folger was able to burn several perfect laps on the Japanese tarmac under good conditions towards the end of the timed session this afternoon.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (AGR Team, Kalex), Grid position 3rd – 1´50.916 (14/18):
“I’m more than happy about my comeback to the front row. Since my last spot in this area some time has passed. I’m also happy as hell because we were consistent during all free sessions. This weekend I was amongst the front group in every practice. This gives an enormous boost and strengthens self-confidence. Our main focus was to look for more rear grip this weekend, which we were finally able to achieve and which you can see easily in our lap times. Furthermore, we were working mainly with the harder option rear tyre during the last two days and in doing so we set a fast consistent pace as well I was able to set my fastest lap time with this compound. Therewith the tyre choice for the race is already done, but I’m even more confident because of the fact we are competitive with it finally. The qualifying itself went trouble-free and at towards the end I was able to put in several almost perfect laps. The only downer is some pain on my ribs, because I suffered a contusion during practice some days before leaving for Japan. Nevertheless, I’m more than happy in every respect, but we need to wait and see how the weather appears tomorrow. It seems to be raining, and then the cards will be mixed up again.”
