GP Americas: Third row start after tight qualifying
Although, Jonas Folger was more pleased about his progress during day two of practice than about his good starting position for this Sunday’s round three at the amazing Circuit of The Americas.
The 22-year-old rider from Germany underlined already during this morning third session, that he and his crew in Dynavolt Intact GP has made a significant step in order to adapt better to the demanding Texan track. However, this session war affected by a short rain shower although Folger finished with in fifth place. Obviously an encouraging result after Friday’s opening sessions went pretty tough. So expectation for qualifying practice were high and Folger was able to improve his lap time by 1.3 seconds but this afternoon displayed once again how closely fought the competition is in the intermediate grand prix category. Folger missed out his goal to start again from the front row by less than two tenth of a second.
The race start for the Moto2™ Grand Prix of The Americas is scheduled for Sunday’s prime time at 7:20pm CET with a distance of 19 laps.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Kalex), Grid position 7th – 2´09.226 (13/15):
“The most positive thing is, that we have made important steps overall compared to yesterday. However, it took some to get used with the changes we made to the bike and it was a pity, that we lost valuable track time this morning due to the rain shower. Nevertheless, I went in positive mood into the timed session to qualify again for a top position on the grid. But the qualifying was such a tight session today, with enormous fast lap times too. In any case, from my point of view the qualifying went very well. I felt comfortable at all and I was able to use the new tyres every time to its utmost. With both new tyres I set a very strong lap times though I was in mind that the second one is good enough for grid position towards the front. But there were four other riders who did the same lap time even though a bit faster, which underline too how closely fought it was during today’s qualifying. It’s a pity somehow, because I was very eager to start from the front row again this time. But on the other hand we have made a good base for race day and if we’re capable of improving in some several details then of course we should be able to race at the front till the line. Overall, I’m happy about today’s performance.”
