GP Americas: Again top five and more important points
Jonas Folger was happy about his performance during Sunday’s round three in Texas, even though he missed his target to finish on the podium again.
Cloudy skies above the amazing Circuit of The Americas provided somewhat of an uncertain outlook for the race. However, conditions remained dry despite some rain drops just before the flag. Folger, who celebrated his first podium this season last Sunday in Argentina and set the clearly target to repeat it in Texas, left the line in a great way though he rode in a bit too defensive style during the opening laps. In addition, the Kalex Moto2 rider was involved in many hard battles for positions throughout the entire distance. But he was clever enough to start his attacks at the right time which was the base for his second strond top 5 finish within one week.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Kalex), 5th (World Championship position 6, 27 points):
“I think, I can be happy with today’s fifth position. Of course I would like to be on the podium again, but the race was really tough. Again the pace was that much fast at the front so it wasn’t possible to stay with them from the beginning. Anyway, I quickly changed my strategy as soon the lights went out because my plan was to take the line inside but then I continued my way outside through turn one which paid off perfectly. However, during the opening laps I performed too defensive instead to start earlier overtaking other riders in our hard fighting group. As soon I pushed to gain positions I made some mistakes. Due to these one, two really bad laps I lost a bit the rhythm but I managed it well to came home in fifth position thank to some strong laps towards the end of the race. To take as many as possible points from this race was the goal and I gained some positions in the championship too. Argentina last time and Texas obviously were a success in this respect so I’m quite pleased with the very first stage of the season. Anyway, I already look forward to the next race in Jerez where the track suites my riding a lot more than here in Austin. But overall, we did a great job this weekend even though the CoTA didn’t belong to my favourite tracks yet. I think this was clearly to see on day one of practice. As it later revealed, we went completely wrong with the gearing so I had to change my riding pretty quickly after we made the necessary changes but at least we were back on form with our package for race day at least. A big thank you to my guys in the garage as well to the whole team for their great job this weekend again.”
