GP Ceske republiky: Start into the weekend more or less ok

  • 19.08.2016

During the first day of practice at the Czech GP, Jonas Folger was mainly working with the tyres to find a preselection for the eleventh race of the season on Sunday.

A cloudy sky above the 5.4 kilometre long Automotodrom Brno and cold temperatures until midday dominated the start into the weekend of the Czech Grand Prix. Some drops of rain worsen the conditions during the first free practice. But the 23 years old didn’t get stopped by all these circumstances. With the second fastest lap time during the morning’s session he put in a fulminant start into the weekend. FP2 in the afternoon was held in better conditions. The sun had replaced the clouds and provided enjoyable warm weather. Because of the previous sessions, grip conditions on track got better and better and regarding the many times complained bumps, Folger didn’t notice a difference to last year. During this 45 minutes’ practice the focus was completely on the tyres. In the end the KALEX rider couldn’t match his lap time from the morning and ended up Friday on ninth position.

The timed practice, in which the starting grid will be determined, starts on Saturday afternoon at 3:05pm.

#94 Jonas FOLGER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Kalex) – FP1: P2 – 2´02.771 (13/15) / FP2: P10 – 2´02.843 (12/17):

“In general the start into the weekend was ok. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to improve in the afternoon. For this I also have to say that we raced with two used tyres. Foremost the goal was to check the performance of the tyres over long distances. I think it was even a small mistake to change that early from the softer option to the harder tyre. Towards the end of the session we would have probably been able to get some more out of with the softer option because of the higher temperatures. But in general we’re doing well, I’m happy how things went today and tomorrow we’ll be able to improve for sure. In comparison to the first practice this morning we went a bit softer with the front to improve our turning. This had a positive impact. But apart from this we didn’t make any big changes with the settings. The goal was to do as many laps as possible and to assess the tyres. In this context we were also playing a bit with the air pressure. Even if the conditions this morning weren’t ideal I had lots of fun to ride here again. For me Brno is clearly better than the Red Bull Ring last time out. There I wasn’t getting along well. I’m already looking forward to Saturday, because we know what we have to do. This means we have to end the tyre testing, have to pull up a new one during qualifying in the afternoon and attack.”
