GP Deutschland: “This was a really big step”

  • 15.07.2016

A massive change to the front of his Kalex Moto2 has brought back confidence for the 22-year-old German rider.

The opening day at the Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland was accompanied by too cold temperatures for this season and rainy weather. Conditions were changing a lot, which mainly affected today’s practice sessions for the Moto2 class. Despite the few laps Folger and his crew in the German Dynavolt Intact GP team could run on Friday, they were able to achieve a big step. Folger finished day one at the twisty Sachsenring in third position and was happy to be able to find his feeling with his bike back.

For the remaining weekend the weather forecast sees more stable conditions for the region. Therefore, the grid deciding qualifying practice should take place in sunny conditions already Saturday afternoon. A starting position within the very first rows is important for a strong race result on Sunday at the tight and twisty German circuit. After an encouraging Friday Folger feels ready to be able to fight for the top spots on the grid.

#94 Jonas FOLGER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Kalex) – FP1: P9 – 1´26.147 (10/10) / FP2: P3 – 1´25.539 (6/11):

“I’m definitely very pleased about this start into the weekend. To be honest, I feel even more relieved after the change back to the old fork worked out better than expected. I’m happy, because the feeling is back again likewise the confidence from the very first moment. So I was able to ride as easy and relaxed like before. Of course it’s difficult to judge if we will keep continuing like this but for the moment we are more than satisfied. Due to the constantly changing weather we weren’t able to go out on track so much. This means we weren’t really able to start working on the setting. Tomorrow we’ll be refining some small things. For sure we’re going to work on the fork too because the responsiveness is a bit too aggressive now, particularly when I release the throttle. But it’s just some fine tuning. The most important thing that the confidence to the front returned. Apart from this I was able to do a big step in respect to my riding at this circuit today. Last year I finished day one in 20th position or something far down the order but today I set the third fastest lap time. This gives me a lot of confidence for the weekend ahead of us. Hopefully is remains dry so we will be able to keep working in this direction.”
