GP Deutschland: “I don’t care about the weather, the main thing are many points tomorrow”

  • 16.07.2016

After strong free practice sessions, the 22-year-old Moto3 rider was not able to improve 13th spot on the grid. But he remains optimistic about race day.

Significantly improved weather conditions with a lot of sunshine welcomed the paddock this morning at the Sachsenring. With increasing temperatures during the day the turn up significantly. Folger started again with a very strong lap time into the day two of practice when he concluded P3 with the fifth fastest lap time in the morning to confirm his excellent performance of the previous day. But because of yet unknown reasons the rider in seventh position of the general standings was not able to handle the general grip problems like the riders. Anyway he wants to be back at the front tomorrow during the race, no matter the weather.

Starting time for the last points haul before the summer break is on Sunday at 12.20 pm. The wild Moto2 field has to deal with a distance of demanding 29 laps.

#94 Jonas FOLGER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Kalex), Grid position 13th – 1´25.053 (19/19):

“Of course I was expecting a lot more from this qualifying than 13th position. At the moment I don’t know what the problem was during the timed session today, but grip of course was a big issue. Apart from that all teams and riders were complaining about the low grip level. In any case we still have to analyse the data in detail to be really ready for the race. Sure we did some changes until qualifying and I felt better. But this morning I was quicker with used tyres than with new ones during the qualifying. This is a bit strange. We already got an idea for tomorrow to set the swing arm shorter which should lead to more grip normally. During a race weekend the time is limited, so we were not able to test this today. But I’m optimistic our plan will work out. Hopefully the weather remains dry, so we can keep working in this direction and finally find out how to get back into our shape. Basically I don’t care about the weather tomorrow. The main thing is, we will be able to do a strong race and take as many points as possible into the summer break.”
