GP d’Italia: Difficult practice sessions means six row start at magnificent Mugello
Jonas Folger struggled during both days of practice at Mugello with some unusual issues for him.
Qualifying practice was once again a thriller with 20 riders separated by just 0.7 seconds. Conditions were excellent thanks to bright skies and hot temperatures but Jonas Folger endured a disappointing session to qualify in P17 for Sunday’s grid, with six tenth off pole setters Sam Lowes’ pace. Likewise, the previous day Folger was hampered by similar setup problems to set faster lap times at the picturesque Tuscany track. However, the ambitious rider and his experienced crew in Dynavolt Intact GP already made a plan for race day which should help to escape these woes. In any case, Folger didn’t get discouraged and remains confident for Sunday’s race in Italy.
The series round six at the Gran Premio d’Italia get underway Sunday lunch time at 12:20 pm. Riders and team to face a challenging 21 laps distance.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Kalex), Grid position 17th – 1´52.652 (4/17):
“Actually we endured similar problems as yesterday. We tried really many different things so mainly we were working on the rear to set it higher and lower several times. In addition, we started some tests with harder and softer shocks but in any case without any success. We really don’t know what is the reason. During all these tests today, the bike felt different each time but I wasn’t able to get faster. We already have a plan for tomorrow, which we will try during warm up and we’re confident that it will work out. However, we don’t know yet if this will affect us in other parts of the track. So I hope we’re right with our ideas because otherwise it will be a very tough race for me. Our lap times are very close to the front guys but I have to start from P17 on the grid for which I’m disappointed. Unfortunate, I didn’t get the chance to follow a fast rider so it’s necessary to analyse all data carefully in order to see where I’m losing time. But to make the right way out from these insights out on track is a pretty tough job. So for this, tomorrow’s warm up session will become even more important for us. I must give everything and to try to get a feeling from scratch. for the race it’s simple said, leaving the line in a great way and to settle quickly in a fast group just in order to recover well and take good points from this race.”
