GP d’Italia: Problems to slow opening day in Mugello
After posting the fourth fastest lap time during Friday morning’s FP1, there appeared massive problems for Jonas Folger and his Dynavolt Intact GP team as soon grip level increased.
A rainy Thursday has brought some heavy thunderstorms to Italy’s Tuscany region which were the reason to dampen a bit the teams and riders’ anticipation for round six this weekend which is a calendar’s classic meanwhile long ago. However, the track dried out almost completely before the wild Moto2 pack started its first free practice session. But in any case, track conditions were a bit far off its best. However, the entire grid went out on track in dry settings and with slick tyres on their machine. Even so it did Folger and it took just a couple of laps till he set the fourth fastest lap time to finish in positive mood for the afternoon session. However, the weather on Friday became sunnier so the track grip level increased a lot in comparison to the morning’s conditions. At the same time as it were, Folger’s situation got worse in respect to find the right click to set up the Kalex Moto2 in a decent way for the magnificent circuit with its many fast changes of direction and long corner. The team and rider were working hard but Folger ended up in a disappointing P16 though the ambitions rider want to be discouraged after this as he foremost is confident to recover well tomorrow.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Kalex) – FP1: P4 – 1´54.388 (7/13) / FP2: P16 – 1´53.585 (14/15):
“We started in to the weekend with a lot more problems than we would like had. FP1 this morning went well overall although track conditions were less ideal. So for this the session wasn’t informative of course. But in any case it was difficult to balance the bike well today. For the moment it seems that we have to much weight on the rear for which I’m not able to hold my line, particularly through these many long and fast corner out there. Throughout a lap with 5.2 kilometres it summed up and then you found yourself with a gap of six tenth quickly. The longer the day and the grip got better and better, our situation got worse. So we must sit down together now in order to work on a plan for tomorrow. But I’m confident and trust in my crew that we’ll find a way and come back to the front again.”
