GP Espana: After strong second place on the Podium again
Jonas Folger was happy about his second rostrum finish this season as well as about gaining one position in the championship standings.
Right at the start, it was really clear there were just two riders who were able to win this Sunday’s the Spanish Grand Prix. Once again, Jonas Folger proved as an excellent starter. Leaving the line from P2 on the grid, he immediately tried to pull away before Folger made a mistake lap two at the end of the back straight. A welcome opportunity for Sam Lowes, who currently leads the championship, to made his move on Folger. However, from that moment the leading pair opened a gap the other riders gradually. During the latter stages of the race, Folger had to realize that there was no way to beat Lowes today. The 22-year-old German decided to bring home a second place and massively important 20 points in a safe way.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Kalex), 2. (World Championship position 5, 47 points):
“First I’m happy with today’s second place. Obviously, Jerez suits my riding with the Moto2 pretty well as it is my third podium at this track in a row. We also knew that Sam’s pace is high and he is able to keep it consistently. Honestly speaking it was demanding to stay with him. But I managed this part of today great as it was our plan before going into the race. The positive minor matter was, that I could open a gap to Alex Rins which I was able to monitor till the line. Towards the end, as the tyres dropped down, Sam was stronger once more, because he was able to keep his pace. However, I rode a strong race from the start to the line. Beyond that, we did a great job throughout the weekend and we took many points from this race. I look forward now to Le Mans where we hopefully can continue in this way. Obviously, the signs are positive because there I celebrated my very first podium in grand prix racing as well as I took already pole position one time. A big thank you to my crew and the entire team for this great cooperation.”
