Jonas Folger

GP France: Again a consistent frontrunner

  • 06.05.2016

To conclude day one of practice at the French round with third fastest lap times overall, Jonas Folger clearly demonstrated his intentions for this weekend.

Folger set in both Friday’s sessions third fastest lap time so he finished the day in P3 in the combined practices times. In doing so, the 22-year-old German rider couldn’t display even better that he also felt very familiar with the technical track in Le Mans, located 200km southwest of Paris. Whilst Folger obviously set competitive lap times effortlessly today, there were a nervous front the reason for some headache inside the Dynavolt Intact GP garage.

#94 Jonas FOLGER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Kalex) – FP1: P3 – 1´38.024 (5/16) / FP2: P3 – 1´37.557 (11/14):

“In any case, it was a good opening day into the weekend. Of course due to the fact, that I was leading FP1 for most of the time. However, as soon most of the other riders switched to the softer tyre option towards the end of the session, I lost the top spot in the timesheet. Opposite to our competitors, we didn’t put in a new tyre so we completed the session with the used hard option. But this was important do gain a proper feeling for the conditions as well for the track. We also first went out on track with the harder option too but as soon we put in the type 0 tyre, the lap times came easily. I also set my fastest lap time of today with this tyre. However, things didn’t go smoothly today. For the moment the front feels nervous which lead to some chattering in different sections of the track. So for this I lacked some confidence in breaking or better to say, at which moment I can release it. We already consulted our technicians in Öhlins and after some discussions we found quickly a solution which we’ll try tomorrow. I’m confident that I’ll be able to ride more smoothly as well I’ll find some more tenth. Despite my feeling wasn’t perfect today, we were able to set strong lap times. This of course gives confidence for the remaining weekend.”
