GP Österreich: Well done start into the Weekend as fifth fastest on Friday

  • 12.08.2016

Jonas Folger’s first goals were to try to find his rhythm again after the summer break.

In strange comparison to the two-day test end of July at the Red Bull Ring, the weather appears these days with much too cold temperatures for this season. Friday morning’s FP1 took place with just eight degrees which of course is a negative record in August for the region around the picturesque Red Bull Ring at an attitude of approximately 700 metres. Teams and riders mainly struggled to get their tyres into the working range of temperature.

Nevertheless, 22-year-old Folger was able to find his pace quickly around the 4.3 kilometres long track as he finished FP1 as second fastest rider whilst the KALEX rider was recorded with the fifth fastest lap time this afternoon. But his first targets were to improve his riding in Styria after Folger concluded already these testing’s one month ago successful.

#94 Jonas FOLGER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Kalex) – FP1: P2 – 1´30.235 (18/19) / FP2: P5 – 1´30.133 (19/20):

“Overall, I’m happy with my start into the weekend. The conditions weren’t easy to master due to the low temperatures today. Mainly this morning it was difficult to get the tyres working in its optimal range. But then, FP2 was a bit more difficult too. First we started with used tyres with which I struggled somehow. Later we changed to the harder option for which we didn’t found the right balance for the bike yet. However, my positions with P2 in the morning and P5 after FP2 are pleasingly. Beyond that I’m not too far off the front. In comparison to our test last month we didn’t change so much to the bike, except we tried a new shock today. Mostly I was focussed to find my rhythm in terms of riding today so we will start to set up the bike properly tomorrow. We also know already in which area we must improve the setting which means that we will load more weight to the front. In doing so we will improve our turning but mainly I still lose too much time in the last part of the track. However, it wasn’t a bad start into the weekend on an almost new track for us.”
