GP Österreich: Useless race till the end
Jonas Folger saw himself in a lonesome ride last Sunday at the picturesque Red Bull Ring after his was gone after just three laps.
Though Folger started from tenth position on the grid, the 23-year-old had hopes for a good result before the start of the race. But already in the first corner after the start the disaster began. After the bad first lap Folger tried to make up for it as fast as possible. During lap four he changed positions with Italian rider Simone Corsi. Folger wanted to counter in the next corner, but the Italian missed his breaking point and was breaking very hard into turn four, which forced Folger to release the break to avoid a collision. So he went straight into the gravel where he could stop his machine just by putting it on the ground. Afterwards, Folger finished the race in a hopeless position. Instead of enjoying the fantastic atmosphere during the comeback of the Motorrad Grand Prix von Österreich in the most prestigious world series, he had to manage a bitter disappointment one day after he turned 23.
In the Moto2 World Championship the trip continues in a few days with the race in Brno, Czech Republic. But before Folger and his German crew of Dynavolt Intact GP stay at the Red Bull Ring in Styria for one day of testing on Monday.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (Dynavolt Intact GP, KALEX), 26th (World Championship position 7th, 83 points):
“I’m really pissed off, because the end of this weekend was completely my fault. Everything started with the bad qualifying. The start itself was more or less ok, but in the first corner I choose the outside line which was my first fault. On the straight to turn three I lost a lot. The first lap was a disaster later too. A bit later it came to my run off into the gravel. The reason for this was Corsi who had passed me shortly before. Of course I wanted to re-pass him directly. I tried it on the breaks, but he was already very late on the break, which forced me to release, otherwise I would have collided into his bike. I went straight into the gravel with high speed and I had no other chance than to lay down the bike. I continued racing until the end, but this was useless. In the end it was a day to forget. It all started yesterday. A tenth place on the grid is absolutely not good. If you start from the first or second row you don’t have to fight with scatterbrains like this. The result of the qualifying affected today’s race a lot.”
