GP San Marino: A lot of work on the bike’s balance

  • 09.09.2016

Jonas Folger finished Friday’s first free sessions in Misano as sixth fastest rider though there is still a lot of work to do on his KALEX Moto2.

The Moto2 World Championship’s round 13 got underway in glorious late summer weather with pleasant temperatures. This weekend’s race at the curvy Misano World Circuit also marks the start of the last third of this season. 23-year-old Folger from Germany showed once again he’s in great shape, as he was recorded fifth fastest this morning before he could improve his lap time in the afternoon slightly to end the day in sixth position of the combined timesheet. Folger felt well with the bike from the very first moment and for the conditions, although the bike’s setting still doesn’t match the track’s requirements yet.

Moto2 action will resume with Saturday morning’s FP3 before the starting grid for Sunday’s race is set to decide at 3:05 pm.

#94 Jonas FOLGER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Kalex), FP1: P5 – 1´38.536 (16/17) / FP2: P6 – 1´38.372 (5/18):

“Overall, it wasn’t a bad start to the weekend. Unfortunately, the balance of the bike isn’t good yet. We’ve tried many things and in doing so we were able to set up the front properly already. But there is still room for improvements on the rear. We didn’t want to risk any major steps, which is why we have always adapted several details. However, the situation got worse the more I tried to push harder. Finally, we’re too soft on the rear whilst otherwise the bike feels good. As I said, it was important that we were able to get the front under control already. For tomorrow we just focus on the rear suspension. Mainly I struggle in corner exit as soon as I open the throttle, lacking some support from the rear tyre. In any case, I’m quite pleased with sixth fastest lap time after day one.”
