GP Valencia: Strong opening day at the season’s finale
Jonas Folger was quite pleased with his start into the last race weekend of the year after finishing fifth fastest of the day.
The opening day at the Valencia circuit was accompanied by lots of sun and pleasant temperatures. However, conditions during this afternoon’s second session were a bit tricky due to increased temperatures and the low sun. But in the morning, Jonas Folger started his last Moto2 race weekend at the Valencia Grand Prix that much strong as he set many of best markers during FP1 before he concluded the opening session third fastest whilst he couldn’t improve this lap time in the second session. Folger and his crew took advantage from the almost perfect track conditions in the afternoon to run some trails in respect to the bike’s setting.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Kalex), FP1: P3 – 1´35.674 (20/26) / FP2: P9 – 1´36.046 (19/19):
“I immediately got a good rhythm during the first session. We started our today’s task with the harder tyre option and in doing so we were able to find a good balance quickly before changing to the softer tyre towards the end of FP1. This one is working better, sure, but it didn’t bring the faster lap times we hoped for. Nevertheless, I was able to find a good feeling and also to define a way which we wanted to follow in the afternoon. In any case, it was a pleasant start to the weekend if you finish FP1 third fastest. But during FP2 in the afternoon we tried some different things which didn’t work out. So, for this we will return this morning’s setting for tomorrow and try to find our pace from FP1 again. However, during qualifying practice we need to find some more tenths just in order to be there. During this afternoon’s session we were out on track with the same softer tyre from this morning, almost for the entire session. This has brought some valuable insights in regard of tyre performance for the race at least. But at the end of day I have to say, that my lap time from this morning wasn’t too bad as I finished Friday fifth fastest overall, so I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”
