Jonas Folger

Still hopes alive for race day in Austin

For series leader Jonas Folger ended Saturday’s timed session with a big disappointment

Although conditions with dry weather throughout the day were much better than during Friday’s first free practice sessions, things didn’t change for Folger. The Kalex rider and his crew are still seeking for a proper setup to the machine for the challenging 5.5km long track at the Circuit of The Americas. So for Sunday’s warm up session as final preparation for the race the team eyes a major change to the bike in the hope to fix the problems.

#94 Jonas FOLGER (AGR Team, Kalex), Starting position 19th – 2´11.092 (3/17):

“P19 for tomorrow’s grid is a big disappointment, of course. I don’t know why but this weekend went completely different to our expectations so far, because last year we were pretty strong here. But for the moment we struggle a lot to find a solution. We tried so many different things on the chassis with a harder and a softer fork, but nothing didn’t work out. I still miss my feeling for the bike I had last time in Qatar. Now we’ve to look at the data carefully and to try a massive change to the bike which hopefully will work out. As said at the moment I can’t ride the bike in a proper way because I’m not able to hold my line and I lack confidence for the front. So this means we’re wrong with the front and rear, as well with well-balanced setting. Furthermore our grip level is less compared to the other riders. I don’t how this happened from Qatar to here because some other riders are telling to adapt the setting for Austin is done by some clicks. Of course, the characteristic of this track is completely different but we’ve no idea how to change the situation. So for tomorrow’s warm up we’ll work on the front in a very different way. Something must happen quickly because we lost already two days of practices with just small adjustments. Hopefully we’re lucky with changes we’ll do.“
