#IDMSuperbike: Jonas Folger is the «King at the Ring»
On Tuesday, the 27-year-old Yamaha rider rounded off a perfect Sachsenring meeting with two superior race wins.
Jonas Folger has returned to top level of performance in terms of his riding since long. At the winding up and downhill track of the legendary Sachsenring, he was also the dominant figure on race day. After topping the timesheet during warm-up in the early morning at crispy 13 degrees, however, the first run at lunchtime began a little bit with turbulences. After four laps the race had to be stopped due to a fall of another rider. But at the restart for shortened distance to 14 laps Folger did not give anything out of his hands right from the beginning. In doing so he stormed from pole position to a clear victory, his third consecutive since the championship’s start. In the second race, on the other hand, due to the “reversed grid” rule, it did not even take half a lap at the 3.6 kilometres long circuit before Folger had a clear view of the front. After two events of the season, he leads the standing with maximum points.
In the shortened IDM Superbike 2020, things are now happening in rapid succession. The next round of the championship will already take place this weekend at the Lausitzring.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (Bonovo action powerd by MGM Racing, Yamaha YZF R1), P1 / P1:
“I am overjoyed. Today’s two race wins today are the result of our hard work. However, I was quite sure in advance that we will be extraordinarily strong at the Sachsenring. This track suits me super well, although it was not always like this. But I always have enjoyed being here. The team did a great job again this time. We already took the right way in the free practice sessions when it came to tune the electronics. As far as the power delivery was concerned, we quickly achieved the right steps.”
“These were sometimes the decisive reasons why we were able to achieve these achievements and why these great results were achieved. In both races everything went according to plan. I got away well at the start each time and was able to pull away right away. Then it went like clockwork or almost by itself. I am incredibly happy about our performance during the last two days. But now I am already looking forward to the Lausitzring though, the track there is new territory for me. So, it will certainly be a bigger challenge for us than it was at the Sachsenring.”
