#ItalianGP: Also in race six in the points
Jonas Folger once again lost the race in Sunday’s season classic at Mugello in the initial stages.
After two hot days of practice in Italy’s beautiful Tuscany, cooler temperatures were very welcomed. But with the start of the MotoGP™ race, the spirts of the passionate Tifosi began to boil. Jonas Folger, however, was just able to participate in it to a limited extent. After a good start, he missed an overtaking manoeuvre during the second lap which means that his race was already gone.
The championship is set to continue in just one week with a next highlight of the calendar in Barcelona.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (Monster Yamaha Tech 3, Yamaha YZF-M1), 13th (Championship position 9th, 41 points):
“This season, it runs like a red thread. I got off a good start and the first lap was ok. But then, during the second lap, I run wide in turn seven as I wanted to pass a rider in front of me. Because of this situation, I lost my race again. We are a bit helpless because we simply can’t find a solution for my problems during the initial stages of a race. It’s definitely not the bike after I’m fast and feel good during free practices, particularly during FP4 every weekend. We are using this session as a final preparation for the race so, I’m doing something wrong.”
“I also have to say that we have changed the bike many times during the last races. On Saturday, we were losing our way a bit and then we returned to the setting we used on Friday. In this regard, we need to look for a more clear line and a clean progress. In the race itself, however, it’s just up to me because I’m not strong enough on braking, or the other way, when I try to start an attack I run into the risk to hit the rider in front of me. I can’t stop my bike as much as it would be necessary for a clean overtaking on the brakes.”
“This, obviously, has cost me a good result again today. We must eliminate this weakness as soon as possible because it may not happen that my course of a race is constantly repeating. At the beginning, I lose an enormous amount of time in every race and I’m just able to find a rhythm and a constant pace from halfway point onwards as from this stage my pace is strong enough for top ten finish. But before I dunk somewhere around P20. Today, it was no different with at the beginning of the second part I felt super comfortable with the bike and got started to recover. The feeling with the bike was similar to Friday when I was third fastest. Even if I could take some points today, I’m not happy with this result.”
