#ItalianGP: “I will finish the race in the top ten”

  • 03.06.2017
For the 23-year-old German MotoGP™ star, however, day two of practice didn’t go according to plan.
After his strong start into weekend with the third fastest lap time on Friday, FP3 on Saturday morning went sobering for Jonas Folger when the Yamaha rider dropped down the order to 16th place in the combined practice times. However, Folger and his crew to found back their form in time for FP4 at lunch time. This session also offered the final preparations for qualifying. So, he was very determined to make it via Q1 into the second time-haunt for the best starting positions. But a crash crossed all his plans.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (Monster Yamaha Tech 3, Yamaha YZF-M1), Startplatz 15 – 1´47.305 (3/5):
“After FP4, I went into Q1 with a very good feeling. In qualifying, I always tried to give more. But then the front folded and I crashed. At this time, I turned a bit quicker than the previous laps there but it happened very unexpectedly. It was clearly my fault, but luckily without any serious consequences. It’s still a pity, because I missed the jump into Q2 because it would have been possible today surely, as I had intended too.”
“For the third session, this morning we made a few changes to the bike but these didn’t bring the desired effect. It was a step back actually. During the break to FP4, we returned to Friday’s setting and everything has worked flawlessly again. This underlines that we have a good base overall, so we are well prepared for the race. Regarding the pace, it certainly will be a help to find this one or the other tenth.”
“Unfortunately, I have to start from fifth row again tomorrow, but a top ten result has to come out in the end anyway. The main goal for this weekend was to achieve a better starting position but unfortunately, my crash has crossed this intention. For the race, the target remains the same, trying to make the first laps better and perhaps riding a bit more aggressive. I feel fast and I have a great feeling with the bike. I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s race, which is always somewhat of extraordinary here at Mugello. But this time, in addition, I’m more excited because it’s the first time to start side by side with Valentino into his home race.”
