Man of the Race in Argentina, but beaten by himself
Jonas Folger lost a possible top result in Sunday’s Moto2™ Gran Premio de la Republica Argentina already during the opening lap.
After starting from P6 on the grid, the 21 year young German rider actually had no competitor on track, except himself. However, Folger lost the race in the first section of the track after start as ran wide several times. However, as soon he picked up his rhythm at the far end of the pack, the Kalex rider displayed an impressive recovery to cross the line in ninth place. During the last third of the distance he was absolutely fast rider on track as Folger set first the fastest lap time in the penultimate lap before he improved this time during the final lap. Nevertheless the disappointment was huge. In any case the South American round was an impressive proof that Folger will compete in this year’s Moto2 series amongst the top rider of this highly competitive class.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (AGR Team, Kalex) – 9, World Championship position 5 (32 Punkte):
“I’m very upset about myself because today I lost the race in the first three corners after the start. Even though the fastest time in the final lap I did as well my very fast and consistent lap times throughout the entire race doesn’t help to overcome this disappointment. As said, my pace was fast enough to fight for a podium or even for victory but today I beat myself due to all my mistakes in the opening lap and this is exactly what may not happen never. But the important thing is that we’re back on form which was definitely displayed by several session best lap times throughout the weekend and this we just need to keep carry on to the next races when the series continues in Europe.“
