San Marino GP: Third row start without any slipstream

  • 12.09.2015

Jonas Folger qualified for ninth position on the grid for tomorrow’s Misano race.

Bright skies and enthusiastic Tifosi accompanied day two of practice with a nail-bitting qualifying practice at the Misano World Circuit this afternoon. 22 year Folger from Bavaria started strong into the day when the Kalex rider was recorded eight fastest during this morning’s FP3. In doing so he underlined that all issues endured the day before were solved and till starting time of the most important qualifying session he and his crew fine-tuned the team’s bike further. However, Folger couldn’t find a helpful slipstream in his final time attack.

#94 Jonas FOLGER (AGR Team, Kalex), Grid position 9th – 1´37.484 (21/21):

“Honestly speaking I’m not fully pleased with today’s qualifying but on the other side I’m confident for the race after studying the time sheets carefully as it shows that I’m quite consistent in terms of lap times in race pace. But for the moment we didn’t make a tyre choice for tomorrow which is really difficult do decide. Our supplier of course pushes for the harder option due to the resurfaced tarmac is still abraisive but with this tyre I’m not fast enough so we will use tomorrow morning’s warm up session to fine tune the setting even more as well I’ll try to adapt my riding style in a more smoothly way. Beyond that I was racing all session long alone without any fast guy in front of me so I really missed a much helpful slipstream. I had once the opportunity to follow Zarco but he closed the throttle immediately as soon he realized my plan so I just had to take the most benefit of the final minutes of the session at my own. But I also still struggle a bit through T1. Unfortunate too for this that I wasn’t able to watch one of the top riders there. But the most important thing is that we were able to solve yesterday’s issues though we just must find a decision for tyre choice. Hopefully we’ll do it right. Anyway, I’m confident to do well during tomorrow’s race at a track a like so much and in front of this passionate fans.”
