Strong Indy result already lost at the start
For Jonas Folger and his AGR Team came a short rain shower at the worst possible time, as they had to make their tyre choice and final adjustments to the setting at the starting grid with just a couple of minutes to go.
Also at the launch for the second part of the season, race luck wasn’t in the hands of the still 21 year young German rider, who turn 22 this Thursday. But this time the outcome of Sunday’s race at Indy is even more annoying because of his strong practice performances throughout the previous days. Due to that fact Folger‘s expectations were high. However, election for tyre choice and final setup adjustments were done at the grid but it took too much time for the final decision so there were no time left to change the shock too for a completely dry setup. Beyond that the Bavarian was victim of a reckless action made by a contender during the early stages of the race. Four points for twelfth position is a very lean yield of an otherwise so auspicious weekend finally.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (AGR Team, Kalex) – 12th, World Championship position 7 (81 points):
“In the end it was once again a big disappointing conclusion of a weekend. We performed strong and consistently throughout all sessions till the race got underway. Of course, the tricky conditions were pretty much difficult to assess but we lost today’s race definitely due to our fault. We decided on the grid to switch to slick tyres quite late, like anybody else too. It was the right choice finally because the track dried out quickly. My start war good and for a couple of laps I was competitive, I could settle within the front group. But with a more and more drying track I wasn’t able to race this high rhythm of them. After the race my crew told me that there wasn’t enough time available to change the shock too. So I was racing the soft shock for rain conditions, just adjusted my more preload for the slick tyre. On the other in our garage, my team mate Axel’s bike was setup completely for the dry condition like anybody else of the frontrunners. Of course, I’m annoyed because we were working so hard and so good all weekend long but it was all for nothing. To leave Indy with just four points in unfruitful. Fortunate the upcoming race already take place next week where I hope to build on this weekend’s performance in order to kick off today’s frustration quickly.”
