Total attack from row four
Jonas Folger went into Saturday’s qualifying practice with high hopes after he set the pace during FP3 in the morning.
The persistent heat was the slightest obstacle for the well-trained Folger to underline his strong from in these for man and material demanding conditions. Beyond that he and his crew were able to find a good compromise for the bike’s setup after yesterday’s problems due to the changed conditions for the afternoon outing. However, the Kalex obviously wanted too much from himself and his machine as well he lacked necessary race luck to find a free track for his time attack.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (AGR Team, Kalex), Grid position 10th – 2´06.634 (8/17):
“After my strong lap times this morning I went full of confidence into qualifying practice but it didn’t work out as good like FP3. First we went out on track with the harder option of the rear tyre just to get a rhythm and a feeling for the hotter conditions before we put in the soft tyre for the first, which was a used one. During this exit I set my fastest lap time which was a strong one, I think I was sixth or seventh on the monitor at this time. After that I entered the pits for a second stop to put in a new soft rear but during my final run I wasn’t able to manage a fast and faultless lap with a good rhythm. Beyond that I ran into traffic for several times as for example during my final lap as there was a group of riders waiting in the last corner. So I couldn’t take full benefit from the new tyre. Of course this result is disappointing but I’m also annoyed about my lap time which is 0.6 seconds off my morning’s pace. However, the positive this is that we’ve found a good compromise in terms of the bike’s setup compared to yesterday. From FP3 and qualifying we made some further little changes like anybody else in order to adapt to the hotter conditions. But the bike’s handling felt a little bit different as I couldn’t hold the line in breaking area. But this was the more minor issue because today’s qualifying wasn’t our best one at all. I would have to get out more from the package.”
