Valencia GP: Promising start into the season’s finale
Consistency was the key point for Jonas Folger at the beginning of the Valencian Grand Prix during Friday’s first practice sessions.
Fantastic weather accompanied the opening day of on-track action at the final round of this year’s World Championship at the tight and twisty 4 kilometre long circuit near the third biggest city of Spain, Valencia. Under perfect conditions, the 22-year-old Folger showed a great form too. The Kalex rider was recorded with the fourth fastest lap time two times, but finished off Friday as the fifth fastest rider in the combined practice times. Anyway, this was not a reason for him to worsen his mood, especially because of his consistent strong pace and this even with both of the tyre options, which were brought to Valencia, which gives hope for the 18th race of the season.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (AGR Team, Kalex) FP1: 4. – 1´36.074 (20/20) / FP2: 4. – 1´36.049 (18/18):
“I’m absolutely pleased with my start into the season’s finale. In both practice sessions, I did the fourth fastest lap, which shows that I was very consistent today. Apart from this, I was fast with both tyre options. This is obviously the most important aspect of the opening day. In the afternoon, I was out on track even with used tyres and I did my fastest lap time on my last lap. At this time, the soft tyre has had more than a race distance already. This is in any case very encouraging for the remaining weekend. Regarding this, we already reached a very high level, but tomorrow the times will be certainly quicker, especially for the qualifying in the afternoon. To be able to match the pace of the rivals we need to adapt the setting a bit. Certainly, these are just little things, but for the moment, I’m still missing a bit of grip in the rear. Therefore, we’re going to try to get more weight to the rear. Otherwise, I’m happy with the first day of practise, especially because both sessions went pretty well today. I think we can calmly look forward to the rest of the weekend.”
