Jonas Folger completed his 2020 racing season with two more top 15 finishes as a wildcard entry at the last round of the Superbike World Championship in Estoril.

The 27-year-old Jonas Folger has made a remarkable showing also in his second appearance in the top-class championship with production-based superbike machines. In fine weather with up to 24 degrees Celsius on Sunday afternoon, the Yamaha rider scored more championship points in the last race of the season with a fine eleventh place. In the Superpole race before, Folger finished in 13th place after starting the second race day of the weekend as eleventh during this morning’s warm-up session. The ambitious rider from Mühldorf in Upper Bavaria has recommended himself for the Superbike World Championship with his performances shown this weekend in Portugal, as well as before at his first race in Barcelona a month ago.

#94 Jonas FOLGER (Bonovo action powerd by MGM Racing, Yamaha YZF R1), Superpole-Race: P13 / Race 2: P11:

“Even though we started the last race weekend of the year with higher expectations, we are honestly satisfied with what we have achieved here in Estoril. The weekend was not easy, we had to fight more than first thought. For the second race, however, we have largely eliminated the mistakes we made before. Unfortunately, the situation with Loris Baz cost us a lot of time. I had to go straight when he had an engine failure right in front of me. That was a real pity because we were not far from sixth place. On the other hand, this is an incredibly positive sign that if everything would fit, we would have the potential to be up there. At this point, I have to admit that it was not easy for us with the bike we got for these events from the Yamaha Factory Racing.”

“This circumstance made it practically impossible that we would be amongst the top five in no time. Especially in a world-class field like this one. For that to happen, everything would really have to work together and then it would still be an act of violence. Apart from that, this weekend was again a big challenge for all of us. Nevertheless, we pulled ourselves out of it decently and got the best out of it, even if there was a bit of bad luck at the one or other point. I would therefore like to thank my entire team for their great commitment. First and foremost, I would like to thank Mr. Jürgen Röder from Bonovo Action, who made this experience possible at all. It was a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to the future, whatever it may bring.”
