This weekend, Jonas Folger returns to the place where he set his career highlight back in 2017 with second place at the Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland in the premier class of two-wheels racing MotoGP™.
Jonas Folger will be back on the grid for GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3 as Pol Espargaro is still waiting for the green light from doctors to return to racing. 29-year-old Folger will be delighted to race in front of his home fans again and it’s a great honour for the German rider, who has memories of the track in the Free State of Saxony, where he took his first and only MotoGP™ podium in his rookie season six years ago, when he finished second just 3.310 seconds behind Sachsenring king Marc Marquez.
The race weekend at the legendary Sachsenring, about an hour’s drive from Dresden, is the second part of the series’ demanding triple header this month. What’s more, the twisty track of the shortest circuit on the calendar demands everything from the pilots. The track’s layout with ten left-hand turns and only three right-hand turns clearly stand out from all the others.
Folger not only made friends with the unique Sachsenring with his second-place finish back in 2017, but also came close to sweeping the boundlessly enthusiastic fans in the stands off their feet with a thrilling duel for victory in the Moto2 class the year before. In his role as KTM test rider, he won’t be able to build on those successes this time around.
