With 63 laps on a hot Monday after the fourth race weekend of the season, Jonas Folger was one of the busiest riders on track to further get familiarized with the high demands of the modern MotoGP class.
Just one day after a particularly exhausting Gran Premio de Espana, Jonas Folger returned to the Circuito de Jerez for an important test with GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3. In good track conditions, the 29-year-old German was able to implement all plans with his crew. Folger drew a very positive balance of the work on track.
For Jonas Folger, the main focus was to feel as comfortable as possible aboard the KTM RC16 as he will be back on the grid for GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3 at the team’s home Grand Prix in Le Mans (May 12-14, 2023). Despite a slightly late start to the day, Folger managed to further improve his feel for the bike but also work on some areas that will provide useful information and data for engineers of Austrian based Pierer Mobility Group.
By lunchtime he had already completed thirty laps, his fastest in 1´38.777. Track conditions were not easy with the air temperature at twenty-eight degrees, but the full-time test rider nevertheless improved his lap times from run to run, setting his fastest lap of the day in 1’38.542 with two hours to go.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3, KTM RC16)
P21 - 1´38.542 (50/63)
“Today’s test was very important for all of us. We were able to fix some issues that we needed to address, especially in terms of my riding. In the end I was praised by my experienced crew because I made very good steps, so I am really happy. We tried a lot of settings, played around a lot and found a good direction to start with a lot of confidence at Le Mans, which will be my next challenge in just over a week. Overall, I was more consistent today and had a much higher pace than during the race weekend. I would like to thank my team for all their hard work and look forward to seeing them again at their home in France!”
