WorldSBK rookie Jonas Folger hopes to benefit from the strong test there at the start of the season at this weekend’s Superbike World Championship guest appearance in Barcelona.
With round nine of the season at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, the FIM Superbike World Championship enters a particularly strenuous stretch with no less than nine races over three weekends in a row. This triple-header kicks off not far from the vibrant capital of Catalonia before the journey continues to the south of Spain to Jerez de la Frontera and from there to Portimao at Portugal’s famous Algarve coastline. In addition to the short time span, it can be assumed that hot temperatures will be a hurdle for human and material to overcome at all these events.
Jonas Folger and his Bonovo Action / MGM Racing Performance team left the official winter test in Barcelona last April performing very impressively. The experience and data gathered should now be of help in making the leap back into the points scoring positions. A year ago, the team was in Barcelona with a wild card.
Due to the collision with this weekend’s grand Ppix at Misano, the two main races of the weekend will not start until 3:15 p.m. each.
#94 Jonas FOLGER (Bonovo Action / MGM Racing Performance, BMW M 1000 RR):
“With the race weekend in Barcelona, the championship is entering the decisive phase, even if that is beside the point for us. Nevertheless, I want to redeem myself with decent performances in the remaining races for what has been a difficult season so far. The next few weeks with three race weekends in a row will also be a bit more stressful. But I am looking forward to this challenge and especially, of course, to Barcelona, where we had a good test at the beginning of this season.”
“So, we are coming to a track where there is very useful data. Hopefully we can implement some of it and take it with us in terms of the bike’s set-up. That is what we are hoping for, to show our true potential and to be able to perform consistently over the next few days. Furthermore, I like the track very much and the layout also suits my riding style. In the past, I have often done well in Barcelona, which boosts my confidence somehow a bit. So, the signs are positive. That is why I am expecting to be able to score some decent points this weekend.”
