Jonas Folger has made good progress during free practice three and in Superpole, but narrowly missed out a point scoring finish in the first Misano race.

Saturday at the Misano World Circuit began for Jonas Folger and his German team Bonovo Action / MGM Racing Performance promisingly. The 27-year-old Bavarian rider was able to improve on his fastest lap time from Friday by 0.775 seconds. As a result, he climbed up the ranking from P16 to 13th place in the timesheet.

In the short but decisive Superpole session, Folger lapped under the 1’35 mark for the first time this weekend and set a new personal best time aboard his still all-new BMW M 1000 RR at the Italian circuit with a 1’34.892. But the competition also got faster, which is why the ambitious athlete had to make do with 15th spot in the fifth row of the starting grid.

In the first corners after the start of the first main race at Misano, Folger initially dropped down the order to 18th place, but was able to make up one position before the pack came back from the opening lap. He made up another place by the middle of the race. Nonetheless, Folger missed out on the points by just 0.161 seconds at the end of the 21-lap battle. For the Superpole race at 11:00am local time and the second main race at 2:00pm local time on Sunday, Folger, together with his team, targets to go one better.

“Unfortunately, we have not found yet what we were hoping for this weekend to have a better feeling. Our pace was not too bad this afternoon, but I just lack a little more confidence with the bike to push harder in the early laps gaining positions. Most of the race I was right behind Tito Rabat. In the last lap I overtook him in the third last corner, but unfortunately, I went a little bit wide.”

“I just went for it. Too bad that it did not work out. Our lap times have improved a bit with each session, but it is still not what we were hoping for. Our goal was to finish in the top 10. Unfortunately, we are still a bit too far away from that right now. It’s a difficult time for us at the moment, but we always try to make the best of it.”
