During this morning free practice three, Jonas Folger made a pleasing leap in terms of his lap time but had to catch up from behind in the race.

In ongoing beautiful but muggy late summer weather, round eight of this year’s FIM Superbike World Championship continued Saturday at the challenging Cricuit de Nevers Magny-Cours. FP3 in the early morning was a good start for Jonas Folger and his Bonovo Action / MGM Racing Performance crew. The 28-year-old BMW rider from Bavaria managed a significant improvement in terms of his lap time compared to Friday. By posting a 1’38.136 he was almost 0.8 seconds faster than in FP2 and thus he also improved in the combined timesheet from 15th place by one position to P14.

In Superpole, meanwhile, Folger was unfortunately unable to continue this upswing. With an almost identical lap time as before, he did not get beyond 19th place on the starting grid.

At the start of the first race of the weekend this afternoon, he initially dropped back to 20th position, and it took him a while to find his rhythm. From then on, however, he managed to fight his way forward step by step. With less fuel in the tank, Folger was able to set consistent lap times in the second half of the race and was able to overtake two opponents. After 21 demanding laps at the French circuit, he finally came home in 16th position.

Grid position 19th / Race 1: P16

“The third practice this morning was a good start to the day. My first exit really went my way. But after the scheduled pit stop, the drive was suddenly gone. Nevertheless, it was a good session, because the increase was again very clear and because of this I was allowed to make hopes for the Superpole. But Superpole, as well as the race, was a laborious affair.”

“It was really hard for me to get up to speed. In the race, I initially had problems with a full tank. The handling of the bike was quite different, so I had a lot of trouble overtaking other riders. It took a long time until I could pass the riders in front of me. As soon as I was able to race my own rhythm, things went much better. Therefore, it was not what we expected. So, we are hoping now that we will manage to find something for Sunday so that we can finish the weekend in style though.”
